Meet Clinical Medical Assistant
Graduate Trista Furbee
Trista Furbee is a 2023 graduate of East Ohio College’s Clinical Medical Assistant program. Trista graduated on September 24th, 2023, with an associate degree in medical assisting. Becoming a medical assistant will give Trista the opportunity to work alongside the physician while practicing the clinical skills she learned during school. This includes performing lab tests, taking a medical history, assessing vital signs, and giving injections, among many other things.
Trista had previously attended college but decided it was not the right fit for her. She explained, “I went to Kent State for physical therapy assisting. The classes were too big, in my personal opinion.” Before deciding to attend East Ohio College, Trista was working full-time at Walmart. When asked why she chose East Ohio College, she explained, “Two of my friends attended East Ohio College, and they raved about EOC and told me they thought it was a good fit.” She continued, “I really liked how friendly the staff was.”
When asked why she chose the Clinical Medical Assistant program, she said, “I knew I wanted to be in the medical field. I also knew I did not want to be in school forever. Medical assisting was a good fit; 18 months of schooling and very hands-on.” Trista said her favorite part of attending East Ohio College was the staff. “They always went the extra mile to help me,” Trista said her favorite teacher is Kristen Scott. She explained, “She always helped me no matter what time it was. She even stayed after class to help me grasp the material. My favorite class would have to be Medical Term Two. My instructor made a hard class fun and also made it more bearable.”
Trista says that her ideal job after graduation would be to work in a pediatric doctor’s office, and when asked where she would like her life to be in five years, she said, “In five years, I would like to be a full-time registered nurse.” When asked if she would refer East Ohio College to a friend, she said, “I most definitely would recommend a friend. My experience here has been amazing all because of the staff, and I would be glad to have one of my friends attend.” Trista’s hobbies and interests outside the classroom include spending time with her friends and family.
