East Ohio College students, instructors, and staff want to share their most-loved Christmas carols with you, from classics to modern hits. Keep reading to discover your next favorite!

Craig Monte, East Ohio Career Management Director

O Holy Night is a Christmas classic, and it is Craig’s favorite song to listen to during the holiday season. He appreciates its harmonious sound, along with the lyrics and the meaning behind them.

Jorden Webb, East Ohio Nursing Student

Jorden’s favorite Christmas carol is “Mary, Did You Know?” because of the meaning behind the lyrics. It was initially written in 1984 and has since been remixed by countless artists across all genres, making it a universally loved tune.

Deb Boyd, East Ohio Admissions Team Leader

Deb’s favorite Christmas carol, Jingle Bells, brings back sweet memories of living in Fort Wainwright, Alaska, with the U.S. Army. Every year, Deb and her family would travel to the North Pole for her kids to meet Santa and his reindeer. This song reminds her of the magic of the North Pole and Santa’s house.

Khyra Wright, East Ohio Admissions Team Member

For Khyra, hearing the song Last Christmas takes her back to Christmases past, her fourth-grade year, to be exact. “My class actually sang this song at our 4th grade Christmas production, and I was so happy to get one of the lead parts in the song. With that role came a lot of responsibility,” she says. “Including learning and singing the lyrics (obnoxiously and off-pitch) throughout my house for the entire month of December. I am sure my parents were thrilled…”

Jamie Stine, East Ohio Dental Assisting Program Director

Jamie’s choice of Christmas carol takes her back to her childhood because her grandparents loved to listen to the Christmas Canon by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. “I actually walked down the aisle at my wedding to this,” she says. “It makes me think of them every time I hear it.”

Jon Ream, East Ohio Tech Support Analyst/ Interim Orientation Coordinator

For Jon, the song Silent Night has a more significant meaning than just being a Christmas tune. When he was younger, he and his mom would go to a Christmas Eve church service where they would hold a candle in the low light of the church and sing songs. “Silent Night really encompasses what Christmas really means,” he says. “Every time I sing it or hear it, it always reminds me of those days with my mom.”

Lori Allmon, East Ohio Nursing Clinical Coordinator

Lori’s favorite Christmas carol takes her back to Christmases past when her children would sing Jingle Bells alongside their grandma and cousins. The kids would sit cross-legged in a circle on the living room floor, singing and laughing. Eventually, they would play games, do crafts, and continue with Christmas tunes in the background. “These memories are to cherish!” Lori says.
