Makayla Vance – Student Highlight

Before attending East Ohio College, medical assisting student, Makayla Vance, was attending another college. She did not feel this school was a good fit for her. “The atmosphere was not what I had in mind, and I was not happy with the way I was being taught. I felt like a number in an ocean of many other students.” However, after visiting the East Ohio campus and meeting with admissions, Makayla knew right away that East Ohio College was the right school for her. “I just wanted to get my education. Hearing about the small classroom sizes and seeing how friendly the staff was while I was going through the admissions process sealed the deal. After attending a horrible college previously, I was skeptical of any school. I truly did not think when I started here that I would fall in love with it, but I did! At East Ohio, I feel understood, accepted, and not lost like I did in my previous college experience. The atmosphere is exactly what I had in mind with small classes and a family of support in faculty and staff.”

When considering programs, Makayla chose medical assisting. “It is my dream to work at an OB/GYN office and then continue my education to nursing. Medical assisting is a perfect stepping stone! I have always been determined to help people, and this career path seemed perfect for me. However, I did not know how much I would love it until I started! I whole-heartedly love coming to school every day and learning all about the world of a medical assistant. It fits my interests and personality perfectly. Caring for others is such a passion of mine, and I am so excited to do that every day and continue my education.”

Although she loves all of the faculty and staff at East Ohio, Makayla says, “My favorite faculty and staff at East Ohio are Mrs. Scott, Mr. Ream, Mrs. Poynter, and Natalie at the front desk. Mrs. Scott is the absolute sweetest person and will go above and beyond for her students. She truly cares about the material she teaches and is just the best teacher I have ever had. Mr. Ream is the most friendly and down-to-earth person. He is always willing to help you and make sure you have everything you need. He is constantly checking up on his students. Ms. Poynter has an excellent teaching style and a great personality. She is always smiling and willing to help her students at any given time. Natalie may be new to our campus, but she is so friendly and a great person to see when you first walk into East Ohio! She is such a hard worker and has been willing to help me since she first started.”

When asked if she would recommend East Ohio, Makayla said, “East Ohio truly saved me. I 100% would not be where I am today without this school. I am more confident and determined than ever because of my teachers. How dedicated they are to me made me even more dedicated to my education! I would recommend this college to absolutely anyone.”
