Malynn Bistarkey – Student Highlight

Meet Clinical Medical Assistant Student
Malynn Bistarkey!

Malynn Bistarkey - Student HighlightMalynn Bistarkey has been a student in the Clinical Medical Assistant program here at East Ohio College since January 2022 and is excited about completing her program at the end of June. Before enrolling at East Ohio College, she attended high school in her hometown of East Palestine, Ohio, where she graduated in 2021. Malynn chose East Ohio College because it is close to home, and she was impressed by the hands-on training offered that you don’t get in the larger colleges. The overall friendly and family-like environment also attracted her. In addition, she was attracted by the small class sizes at East Ohio College, which provides more of a one-on-one learning environment.

Malynn chose the medical assisting training program because she has always had the desire to help others and make a positive difference in people’s lives. When asked what her favorite part of attending East Ohio College is, she stated being a part of the student government has been a lot of fun and provided an opportunity to make new friends and be involved in fun activities. In particular, last Halloween, the student government members got together in the campus library and spent several hours filling over five hundred bags with donated candy and treats (and not all the candy made it into the bags). We decorated the trunk of a car then everyone met in Lisbon, OH, at a large trunk and treat event hosted by a county agency. At the event, we displayed the East Ohio College logo, dressed in costumes, and handed out bags of candy to hundreds of kids. It was a lot of fun and a great memory.

Malynn’s favorite instructor at East Ohio College is Mrs. Scott, and her favorite class is Clinical 2 because it offers the most hands-on training. Malynn’s hard work and dedication as a student have already paid off. She has already been offered and accepted a Medical Assisting position at a local medical facility and is excited to graduate and start her new career. Malynn has set goals and has a game plan for the next five years. She would like to be living on her own and plans on returning to college to become a registered nurse. She would definitely recommend East Ohio College to family in friends due to the small class sizes that provide more interaction and a positive learning environment.

In addition to being an East Ohio College student, Malynn is the East Palestine middle school volleyball coach and an assistant coach for the varsity volleyball team and the varsity track and field team.
