Keep Up With Your Resolutions With Our Top 4 Tips

Now that we are halfway through 2023, East Ohio College would like to check in to see how everyone is keeping up with their new year’s resolutions!

Have you had a hard time sticking to your resolutions? Or perhaps you need help setting good habits for the rest of the year. If this sounds like you, read on to learn East Ohio’s top four tips for keeping up with your new year’s resolutions all year long.

Keep Up With Your Resolutions With Our Top 4 TipsTake A Closer Look At Your Goals For The Year

Let’s start by closely examining the resolutions you set for yourself at the beginning of the year. If you were not able to keep up with them as the year went on, there is a chance that you set too large of a goal for yourself and found that it was unrealistic.

Setting SMART goals can allow you to break down your overall goal into smaller, more attainable steps. This will help you to stay on track to achieving your overall goal.

Reevaluate Your Resolutions

As you look closely at the resolutions you set for yourself six months ago, you may realize that your goal then is no longer relevant to your situation now. Adapting your resolution to something that makes sense for your life is okay. For example, let’s say your New Year’s resolution was to better your future by attending nursing school. After doing research on nursing programs, you may have decided that you don’t picture yourself as a nurse. Instead, you are interested in a career in medical coding.

You can adjust your resolution to attending a medical coding program, which is still working toward your goal of bettering your future. Just because you set one specific resolution doesn’t mean you can’t change your mind as you grow!

Start Positive Habits

It’s never too late to start setting positive habits to improve your life. According to an article published by Psych Central, it takes 59 days for a habit to become routine. Spending time thinking about what parts of your life could be improved by changing your habits and implementing the changes could become permanent in a matter of months!

A helpful tip to help motivate yourself to keep up with establishing a new habit could be to have a set time to do the particular task. For example, let’s say your resolution was to read one book a month for the year. You could establish the habit of reading before bed, which will eventually become part of your daily routine and help you accomplish your goal.

Get Support

Having additional support to help you keep up with your new year’s resolution can help you stick to your plan and habits. Find someone within your support system with similar goals which can help hold you accountable and motivate you not to give up.

A support system can look different for each individual. For some, it could be a parent or close friend; for others, it could be joining a support group within the community. Regardless of where you find the support you need, having people you can rely on while on the path to achieving your goals make a huge difference in your success!
