Doris Rogers – Faculty Highlight

Meet Instructor and Student Aid Doris Rogers!

Doris Rogers - Faculty HighlightDoris Rogers has been a well-respected and very much appreciated instructor and student aid at East Ohio College, previously Ohio Valley College of Technology, for thirty-one years. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Kent State University. Before becoming an instructor at EOC, Doris taught for five years at Wellsville High School and substituted for one year at East Liverpool. When asked how she got started at East Ohio, Doris stated that the owner at that time wanted to retire from being an instructor and contacted her about taking over the instructor duties. She liked the idea and has been here ever since.

Doris’ favorite part of working at EOC is her passion for working with and teaching young people. She explained that taking the time to talk to the students and getting to know them helped her understand their life wishes and goals, which enabled her to assist them in obtaining one of their life objectives. She also really enjoys working with the staff, who she has always considered her second family and has always appreciated that everyone is always there for each other. Her favorite memory is seeing the students change in confidence and self-assurance from their first day of class to their graduation. Doris continues to be motivated by young people. She really enjoys conversing with them and watching them grow up and achieve their hopes and dreams. She is most proud when she walks into an office or hospital and sees one of our graduates working there with confidence and competence. It’s a very gratifying moment.

When Doris is not at work, she and her husband enjoy spending time with their family and attending area school functions, including plays, music, and sporting events. When asked to tell something interesting about herself, Doris said she is known as the “daughter of the milkman” because her father owned a retail dairy, and she helped him deliver dairy products throughout the area from 5 am to 2 pm every day. Doris also said that she feels educated when she listens to young people and gets to know them. Many of her close friends have graduated from this college over the years. She has an aunt that graduated from college with an accounting degree and came here to East Ohio to refresh her education.
