Meet Ashlea Grimes, Clinical Medical
Assistant Graduate
Ashlea Grimes is a 2023 East Ohio College’s Clinical Medical Assistant program graduate. Ashlea graduated on December 17th with an associate degree in medical assisting. With this degree, Ashlea will be able to practice her clinicals skills on a daily basis alongside the physician. She will be able to assess vital signs, perform blood work, give injections, collect lab specimens, and prepare patients for exams, among many other duties.
Prior to attending East Ohio College, Ashlea attended Kent State. She explained, “Before coming here, I went to Kent State for three years. My experience was good but not what I was looking for. The nursing program was great but not for me.” After this, Ashlea decided to take a gap year. She stated, “Before I started attending this school[East Ohio College], I was off from school for a year and working.”
When asked why she decided to choose East Ohio College, Ashlea said, “I chose East Ohio College because of the great things I had heard and the convenience of being online while working.” When asked why she decided to choose the Clinical Medical Assistant program, she explained, “medical assisting was something I have always been interested in since I was little.” Ashlea said that her favorite part of attending East Ohio College was the instructors. “My favorite part of East Ohio was having instructors that kept in contact with me and made me feel like I could continue in school.”
Ashlea said that her favorite classes were the clinical ones because they allowed her to watch and learn procedures. She also said that her ideal job after graduating is a medical assisting job at a neurology office or pediatrics. When asked how she would like her life to be in five years, Ashlea stated, “In five years, I would like to have a great job and maybe continue school for nursing.”
When asked if she would refer a friend to East Ohio College, Ashlea said yes. “I would refer the school to someone. It is a great school and makes you feel like you can achieve your dreams and goals”. Outside of school, Ashlea enjoys being outdoors. She explained, “My hobbies are photography and doing anything outside.”
