East Ohio College is here to help guide you through the 7 steps to enter the program. Throughout your time as a student, and as you enter the workforce as a nurse, continue reading to learn how you can get started in the Nursing program.
Step 1: Research and Request Information
One of the first steps in attending nursing school is to decide what type of program best fits the needs of yourself, your family and lifestyle. The East Ohio College team understands that students need to balance family, work, and college. Therefore, the East Ohio Nursing program is direct admission and accelerated. This means that once a student is accepted, they will begin taking courses directly related to their nursing education and can expect to complete the program in only 18 months, saving valuable time and money.
Once deciding to pursue the East Ohio College Nursing program, the admissions process begins by requesting information. By filling out a form including your basic information, such as name, phone number, email address, and program of interest, you are providing our admissions team with the necessary information to contact you. Your nursing admissions team member will then reach out to you for an introductory call to learn more about you.
Step 2: Complete A College Visit
Once you have completed an introductory call with your admissions team member, they will schedule a campus visit where you will visit the East Ohio College campus in East Liverpool, Ohio or attend it virtually. During this visit, you can expect to learn more detailed information about the nursing training program, East Ohio’s career services, the financial aid* process, the nursing application process, and more while building a relationship with your admissions team member.
At the end of your visit, your admissions team member will then recommend you to apply for admission to the Nursing program should they determine that the program is a good fit for your lifestyle and career goals.
Step 3: Apply To East Ohio College
Once you have completed your college visit, the next step in the process is to complete a formal application for admission to the program and pay any applicable fees. This application can be completed online or in person with the help of your admissions team member. During this step, your admissions team member will direct you to request official transcripts from your high school and any college you previously attended.
Step 4: Schedule And Study For The TEAS Exam
After your admissions team member receives your formal application, they will help you schedule your Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam. The TEAS exam is a standardized test that many institutions require for admittance to a nursing training program. It is recommended by the creator of the exam, Advanced Technology Institute (ATI), that students study for 2-3 weeks before taking the exam, and your nursing admissions team member can direct you to resources to help you prepare.
Potential students who take the TEAS exam and do not pass on the first try have the opportunity to enroll in East Ohio’s sister school, WVJC Online’s free Online TEAS Prep Course to receive additional preparation. The next exam attempt cost waived. Your admissions team member will provide more information on this option should it be necessary for you.
Step 5: Meet With The Director of Nursing
Upon passing your TEAS exam, the next step is to complete a one-hour interview with the Nursing Program Director. During this interview, the Director of Nursing will learn more about you and your career goals, and determine if you will be a strong candidate for the East Ohio Nursing program. In addition, you will need to bring with you a copy of your completed application including two professional references and an essay.
The Director of Nursing will determine if you are accepted into the direct admission nursing training program or will recommend you to a different program based on your needs.
Step 6: Complete A Financial Aid Consultation
If you are accepted into East Ohio’s direct admission nursing courses, the next step will be to schedule a financial aid consultation to discuss your individual financial situation. During this meeting, your financial aid team member will assist you in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form and help you determine eligibility for financial aid*. They will also discuss your scholarship and grant** opportunities or loans to help you finance your education.
Step 7: Complete Orientation And Begin Nursing Classes
Once admitted to the Nursing program, students will complete a new student orientation course, where they will learn more detailed information about East Ohio College’s policies, processes, and procedures. Upon completion of this course, students will begin taking nursing-related classes.
Prior to completing the new student orientation course, students must complete the required enrollment documents, provide immunization records, and any other necessary clearances must be completed.
Throughout your first six weeks of classes, your admissions team member will still be there to assist you with any questions you may have as you adapt to being an East Ohio College student. Then, as you continue your education, the Nursing Program Director, the career management department, and the academic team will be there to guide you through the remainder of your program.
