National Public Health Week

April 6-12th is National Public Health Week!

For more than 30 years, communities across the country have come together to observe National Public Health Week, an opportunity to recognize the importance of public health and the professionals who work in the field.

National Public Health Week

This year, National Public Health Week is celebrated from April 6th to 12th. This week offers an opportunity to reflect, learn, and plan for a healthier future. Organized by the American Public Health Association (APHA), the 2026 theme for National Public Health Week is Ready. Set. Action!

Keep reading this blog to learn more about how you can get involved in National Public Health Week and how East Ohio College (EOC) is committed to improving our community.

What is National Public Health Week?

National Public Health Week signifies advancements, challenges, and awareness of healthcare in communities all over the country. From disease prevention and access to care to health education and environmental safety, public health plays a crucial role in the lives of individuals and communities.

National Public Health Week is an opportunity to recognize the hard work of healthcare professionals who work both behind the scenes and on the front lines to improve overall wellness and prevent widespread illness.

How to Celebrate National Public Health Week

There are many levels of involvement for individuals wanting to participate in National Public Health Week. Whether you are a student, healthcare professional, or community member, you can play a role in improving your community. One of the easiest ways to do this is to educate yourself on important and relevant health topics and encourage others to do the same.

Public health begins at the individual level, so everyone has the opportunity to take steps toward improving their own health. Small steps you can take include eating more balanced meals, quitting unhealthy habits, and prioritizing mental wellness, all of which are excellent ways to improve your health. When you make these steps for yourself, you are more likely to motivate others to do the same.

For students at East Ohio College, National Public Health Week is an important time to reflect on their future careers and the impact they can make in the healthcare field. Many of the career paths that EOC students take directly relate to public health, and every graduate has the power to make a difference!

What Does “Ready. Set. Action!” Mean for You?

This year’s theme, Ready. Set. Action! encourages individuals to take a step beyond awareness and make actionable progress toward improving public health. It serves as a powerful reminder that real change happens when awareness is paired with intention, effort, and follow-through, whether that means advocating for better resources, making healthier lifestyle choices, or supporting others in their wellness journeys.

At East Ohio College, we are proud to encourage and support students who are ready to take action and make a difference in their communities. This National Public Health Week, we encourage every individual to consider their role in promoting health, big or small.
