Kiersten Cusick – Graduate Highlight

Meet Medical Assisting graduate Kiersten Cusick! Kiersten was completing college-level courses in high school and knew that East Ohio College was the right school for her as early as her junior year.  “I really liked the idea of the smaller class sizes and more hands-on experiences East Ohio had to offer. I chose East Ohio because the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed into a family. I have made so many new friends, and every teacher has become like family to me.”

Kiersten took great interest in the medical field at a young age. She has always enjoyed helping others and is fascinated by the science behind the profession. As she got older, she decided she recognized medical assisting as a great stepping stone toward becoming a Registered Nurse.

Upon graduating from East Ohio’s Medical Assisting program, Kiersten passed her national certification*, earning a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant credential. She also began her professional medical assisting career at Salem Regional Medical Center. She looks forward to expanding her skills within her field and is anticipating starting East Ohio’s Nursing program this August. “I plan to continue working while in nursing school. The end goal in my 5-year plan is to be a Registered Nurse** in an emergency department at a local hospital. I would also like to become a BSN later on, but I definitely want to work for a bit in each step.”

As a student, Kiersten particularly enjoyed partaking in all of the direct hands-on learning and clinical engagement. She absolutely loved her Medical Assisting Program Director, Mrs. Kristen Scott. “She always puts the students first, and she is amazing at what she does.” Kiersten felt the Medical Assisting program equipped her with in-demand medical skills that could benefit her tremendously when applied in her career field. When asked if she would refer people to East Ohio, Kiersten stated she absolutely would because “it’s a fast-paced environment with great hands-on experiences.”
