What is the difference between a job and a career?
Among the major differences between a job and a career is that a job is a short-term way to earn money, while a career focuses on long-term opportunities. Additionally, a job typically requires little to no education or experience, whereas a career could require skills and knowledge to get started. For example, a retail or customer service job would provide on-the-job training, but a healthcare career usually requires hands-on skill training.
One of the benefits of a career rather than a job is that a career is built upon previous positions and experiences; it can allow for advancement and job satisfaction. A career can also provide stability and routine.
How can I start my career?
A good first step to starting a new career is determining which path is best for you. A way to do this is to list your interests and see which ones could become a career. By using your skills and interests to decide on a career path, you are more likely to be satisfied and successful in your new career.
Another way to choose a path is by taking a career test. Surveys like this allow you to answer prompts about yourself. Like traits important to you, how you picture yourself dressing, and even how long you imagine yourself attending college. Then. by evaluating your answers, the career test will suggest a program that best fits your ideal lifestyle.
Once you have decided on a career path to pursue, the next step is to research colleges with programs that align with your desired career. There are many different institutions that offer various lengths and outcomes of their programs, so selecting one that fits your needs is essential. East Ohio College provides students with academic support and career services to create a personalized education plan to help them reach their career goals.
